Congratulations are in order for now-former Syracuse lacrosse star Joey Spallina, who won the accuracy challenge at the 2026 PLL All-Star Game festivities on Sunday.

Spallina, who is a member of the Maryland Whipsnakes, rifled shot after shot at targets set up in various spots around the cage, doing so with maximum accuracy and high-end velocity. Knowing he had already won, he even produced some trick shots at the end.

One of the most decorated players in Syracuse lacrosse history, Spallina had a banner season for the Orange in 2026.

Helping lead Syracuse to the Final Four against Notre Dame, Spallina had 87 total points. He had 35 goals and 52 assists, helping drive the Orange's elite offense. He also became the program's all-time leading scorer (333 points), earning him a permanent place in the program record books.

He was a finalist for the Tewaaraton Award, the lacrosse equivalent of the Heisman Trophy, and was also named as the Most Outstanding Attack in the nation. He was also named as a first-team All-American by USILA. 

He was taken No. 3 overall in the PLL Draft by Maryland. So far, he has 13 points (five goals, eight assists). He's the third highest-scoring attack on the roster at this point.

--The Orange are now less than two months away from the start of the 2026 college football season, which begins on Sept. 5 against New Hampshire.

Syracuse is coming off a 3-9 season in 2025, but there are reasons for optimism in this campaign, and we covered them here.

--The SU men's basketball team is hosting its annual Summer Slam event again this year, with this version taking place on July 22 at the Lobdell Family barn in  Skaneateles, N.Y.

This event combines many different aspects into one fun night: As noted by the press release on the event, fans will get an opportunity to meet members of the 2026-27 Orange team while also getting a chance to hear from head coach Gerry McNamara and Orange legend Carmelo Anthony.

The event also serves as a way to fundraise NIL opportunities for the athletic department, and other Orange head coaches are scheduled to attend.
