The Orange men are getting ready for the Final Four on Saturday, but not without some additional individual awards going in the trophy case.
On Thursday, perhaps in a precursor to that award, Spallina was named as the Most Outstanding Attack in the nation. He was also named as a first-team All-American by USILA.
Spallina, who became the program's all-time leading scorer this season, had 75 points in the regular season and has added 10 more in the postseason. The Orange have won two games in the NCAA Tournament and will play Notre Dame on Saturday afternoon (2:30 p.m. ET) in the national semifinal. It's the second straight year that Syracuse has advanced to the Final Four and the program is seeking its first national title since 2009.
In addition to Spallina, Luke Rhoa was a second-team selection at midfield and Billy Dwan III was named a third-team All-American on defense. Riley Figueiras joined him.
Rhoa has 42 points on the season, including 30 goals and 13 ground balls. Figueiras has picked up 59 ground balls while Dwan has 33.
On the women's side
Coco Vandiver and Molly Guzik were both named All-Americans as well. Guzick was named to the team as an attack while Vandiver is on defense. Guzick was named as a Top 25 finalist for the Tewaaraton Award, scoring in 18 of 20 games. The sophomore from Rochester had 54 total points as the Orange advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Also on campus
--The Orange football team landed top tight end Michael Nnabuife from the Class of 2027 on Wednesday. In addition to landing Nnabuife, the Orange are also working to land one of New York's top recruits. Our own Tom Goslowski recently covered some of the importance in retaining in-state talent.
The football season begins on Sept. 5 as the Orange host New Hampshire. We'll have full coverage all season long from the JMA Wireless Dome.
--The SU men's basketball team is finalizing a 2026 game with Rutgers, which will be played at the Barclay's Center. The two former Big East rivals have met 48 times, with Syracuse owning a 38-10 record. In addition to Rutgers, the Orange are also playing Indiana, Providence and St. John's in 2026-27.
The full schedule is not out yet, but we also know that the Orange will play Albany in an in-state, non-conference showdown.
