After getting shut out in the high school recruiting period, the Orange are back in business under new head coach Gerry McNamara.
As was expected to happen, the Syracuse men's basketball program has received a commitment from high school point guard Ryan Moesch.
While new head coach Gerry McNamara has already done well in the transfer portal, the Orange did not have even one single high school recruit for next season under previous head coach Adrian Autry.
From Jeff Borzello of ESPN:
Four-star senior Ryan Moesch has committed to Syracuse, per his agent Mike Simonetta of @LifeSportsAgncy. Moesch had committed to Siena under Gerry McNamara, will now follow him to the Orange. The dynamic PG was considered a huge recruiting coup for the Saints in the fall.
Moesch de-committed from Siena on March 26 with Syracuse offering him almost immediately. He played at nearby Chittenango High School before finishing his career in Massachusetts.
As noted by 247 Sports, he also had previous interest from Providence, Bowling Green and Akron.
The big question here
The big question is whether or not Moesch can truly play in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Some of his previous offers were from mid-major schools in the MAC and then Siena in the MAAC. Is he ready to step into the physicality of the ACC? We will have to find out.
There's also the possibility that Moesch could simply grow into that player. Because of the transfer portal, NIL and guys leaving early, we are no longer used to seeing players who simply develop over the course of four years.
Maybe Moesch is a MAAC player today and maybe he won't play much at Syracuse in year one. That doesn't mean he can't grow into an ACC player over the course of four years.
After losing point guard Naithan George to the portal this offseason, there are minutes to be had for McNamara's team.

--Syracuse women's basketball standout Laila Phelia was not selected in Monday night's WNBA Draft, which was a surprise. The senior helped lead SU to the NCAA Tournament this past season, where they were beaten by UConn in the Round of 32.
She's now a free agent and can sign anywhere.
--Another SU men's basketball transfer has committed: Tyler Betsey signed with BYU on Monday. He averaged nearly seven points a a game this past season while also shooting at greater than 40 percent from three-point range. We took a look at what his absence will mean for Syracuse earlier on Tuesday.
