The freshman sharpshooter had a standout performance against CCSU Thursday night.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The Syracuse Orange men's basketball team secured its second win of the season on Thursday night.

Our own Brady Farkas offered up his takeaways from the Orange's 53-point win over the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils.

Nine different players scored for the Orange in the team's second win of the season.

While Gavin Doty led the way with 18 points, freshman Mark Morano finished second on the team with 16 points. The forward from Slovenia continues to impress both Orange fans and head coach Gerry McNamara.

McNamara on Morano's performance against Central Connecticut State

"I got mad at him when I ran a play for him and he didn't shoot it, so I screamed at him. He is a good player. Right from the start of the game I think he got downhill and made a lay-up I believe... the kid's got big time potential."

Not only did Morano net 16 points, he also added five rebounds, one assist and one steal. He certainly hasn't looked overwhelmed at the idea of playing in the United States - or for a program with real history like Syracuse.

Why Morano will need a strong game Monday

McNamara confirmed in the post game press conference that Tobiason will not play in Monday's game against Indiana. Tobiason is dealing with a hamstring injury that kept him out of Thursday's game. He's been dealing it with since mid-October.

Without Tobiason, Morano is likely to be the player who sees an expanded role on the floor. While Tobiason is more of a physical player who can also get to the rim, Morano's ability to hit three-pointers could pose an interesting threat to the opposition.

Could a big game Monday lead to even more success?

It is very possible. After two games, Morano's role is as an outside threat. The more confident and consistent he plays from beyond the arc, the more likely his minutes will increase.

Syracuse has a history of young players being able to contribute as three-point threats. Past players include McNamara, along with Buddy Boeheim, Trevor Cooney and Andy Rautins. All four of those players were able to carve out time on the court because of their strength of hitting long range shots. Morano could be pacing towards that same type of role in his freshman season.

And if he ends up with the same kind of career as they had? Well, that's exactly what Syracuse needs in order to get back to national prominence.

What's next for the Orange?

Syracuse is back in action on Monday night when it takes on the Big Ten's Indiana Hoosiers. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. ET

Orange fans will have to wait almost two weeks before they see this season's team back in action at the JMA Wireless Dome. Syracuse's next scheduled home game is set for Nov. 18 when they host the Cornell Big Red. Tip-off is set for 8:00 p.m. ET.
