The Orange will both be playing the same school in the upcoming ACC-SEC Challenge.

On Thursday night and Friday afternoon, we officially learned that the Syracuse men's basketball program will take on Oklahoma in the upcoming ACC-SEC Challenge. The Orange men will play the Sooners on Dec. 1 in Norman, Okla.

Well, on Friday we also learned that the Syracuse women's program will also take on Oklahoma in the challenge. But the women's program will get the Sooners at home at the JMA Wireless Dome. That game will be played on Dec. 3.

Last season, the SU men hosted Tennessee on Dec. 2, winning that game and providing the best environment all season on campus. The women will try to recreate that this year.

They have also added multiple transfers, including Emely Rodriguez of Iowa and Sarah Rambus of Oregon.

What you need to know about Oklahoma

The Sooners will represent a challenge for the Orange, as they went 26-8 a season ago, also posting an 11-5 record in SEC play. They defeated North Carolina State 103-98 in the ACC-SEC Challenge and also earned wins over No. 23 Oklahoma State and No. 2 South Carolina. They advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament, losing to South Carolina in that contest.

About the importance of this contest

It's the goal of every program to earn a bid into the NCAA Tournament, Syracuse included. In order to do that, Syracuse's goal will be to amass a high number of wins. However, they also want to earn quality victories. While playing in the ACC will provide numerous chances to earn quality victories, this contest will represent another chance as well. Beating a program as good as Oklahoma will go a long way in the eyes of a tournament selection committee.
