Call me a fun-sucker all you want, but I'm just a guy with high expectations.

Brady Farkas on the state of Syracuse basketball right now.

I was a mix of legitimately angry and wildly disappointed on Tuesday night when I saw fans storm the JMA Wireless Dome court after unranked Syracuse beat No. 13 Tennessee in the ACC/SEC Challenge.

Syracuse won the game 62-60 to improve to 5-3 on the season. Tennessee is now 7-2.

And you can call me a stick-in-the-mud, or a fun-sucker all you want, but I just think of myself as a guy with high expectations. Evidently, Syracuse fans no longer have those same expectations. And that's what disappoints me more than anything.

Let me just lay out the facts

Now, before I go any further, let me make it clear: I understand that Syracuse has struggled lately. This team was coming off three straight losses, and this program hasn't been to the NCAA Tournament since 2020-21. Four years is a long time. I get all that.

That said? The court storming was completely unnecessary. In fact, I found it insulting.

Because here's how I see it:

Syracuse is a power conference team, in the ACC, the most decorated conference in the country. They aren't some upstart from the SoCon or the America East. Syracuse is thought of a blue-blood program, along the same lines as a UConn or a Kansas. This isn't some plucky underdog.

As a result, beating a program like Tennessee should be the expectation, not the exception, and if you're so wowed by a home win against the 13th-ranked team in the country, then you really think the program has fallen into disrepair and irrelevance.

And that makes me sad.

A power conference team beating a power conference team at home shouldn't be a surprise. It should be the norm. This is a Syracuse team that just went to overtime with No. 3 Houston last week. They've already proven they can play against good teams; it's not like this came out of nowhere.

But apparently to the fans, it did. And again, that makes me sad.

You can hear more of my thoughts in the video player above.

Need to know

The Syracuse women's hoop team is 6-1 on the young season, and they'll play in their own ACC-SEC challenge on Wednesday when they host Auburn at 5 p.m. ET.

After that? They'll begin ACC play on Sunday at SMU

The Syracuse men will be off until Dec. 11 when they host St. Joseph's at 9 p.m. ET. We will have on-site coverage for that game.
