Jack Stonehouse, along with two teammates, are joining NFL rosters after not being selected.

For the third time in five years, no Syracuse football players were selected in the National Football League's annual draft. But although the draft has come to a close, three former Syracuse players have signed on with NFL teams as undrafted free agents.

Dion "Tank" Wilson Jr signs with the Baltimore Ravens

After playing at both Arizona and and New Mexico State, Wilson joined the Orange in 2024. The 6''5' defensive lineman started in 11 games this past fall and recorded 29 tackles. Wilson joins a Ravens roster that will be led by first year head coach Jesse Minter.

Kevin Jobity Jr. signs with the Pittsburgh Steelers

A Buffalo, N.Y. native, Jobity spent all four seasons contributing to the Orange's defensive line. In 38 games and 17 starts, Jobity finished with 10 career sacks. Jobity joins a Steelers team that will be led by new head coach Mike McCarthy.

Jack Stonehouse signs with Houston Texans

Stonehouse, a punter, joined Syracuse in 2023 after transferring from Missouri. Stonehouse was an All-ACC first team selection this past fall. He was the only member of the Orange to be invited to the NFL Combine as part of the pre-draft process.

Stonehouse's father, John Stonehouse, punted for the New York Giants while his cousin Ryan Stonehouse punted for the Tennessee Titans and Miami Dolphins.

Syracuse's recent special teams success in the NFL

Stonehouse joins a list of special teamers who have found a path to the professional level via Central New York.

In 2016 Riley Dixon, a former walk-on, was drafted in the seventh round by the Denver Broncos. Dixon spent time with the Orange from 2011-2015. Since getting selected in 2016, Dixon has spent the past decade as a punter in the NFL. The current Tampa Bay Buccaneer was an All-ACC Second Team selection during his tenure in Central New York.

Sterling Hofrichter followed Dixon as the team's punter and was able to find a path to the pros also. A seventh-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Hofrichter spent time with the Atlanta Falcons, Buccaneers and Miami Dolphins over three seasons. Hofrichter was most recently a part of the United Football League's St. Louis Battlehawks before being released earlier this year.

Kicker Andre Szmyt was a part of the Orange program from 2017-2022. After redshirting in 2017, Szmyt won the Lou Groza Award (best kicker in the country) in 2018. An All-American in 2018 and a two time All-ACC selection in his career, Szmyt went undrafted but has served as an NFL kicker with the Cleveland Browns since 2024.

Can they make the 53 man roster?

NFL teams are allowed to carry 90 players on a roster heading into training camp. Teams are then forced to trim their roster down to 53 players for the start of the season. Of the three, Stonehouse seems the most likely to be on the roster by Week 1. The Texans only have one other punter on their roster. Houston signed Kai Kroeger in March. Kroeger punted for both the Jets and Saints in 2025 and will compete against Stonehouse for the starting punter job.
