The Orange defeated the UConn Huskies 42-41 on Saturday in a game that got them back to .500.
The Syracuse Orange football team won its second game of the season this past weekend with a 42-41 overtime thriller against the UConn Huskies in East Hartford, Conn.
The Orange's victory was led by one of the strongest offensive outputs of the season. Quarterback Amari Odom started his first game of the season, throwing for more than 300 yards. He also combined for six total touchdowns, including five through the air.
Two of Odom's fellow offensive teammates were recognized by the ACC this week for their respective performances in Saturday's victory.
As for the Honors...
Wide Receiver of the Week-Umari Hatcher.
The sixth-year wide receiver posted 12 catches for 152 yards and three touchdowns. The three touchdowns catches are the most by any Syracuse player since 2016. His biggest catch came on a 4th-and-goal in overtime, a touchdown that gave Syracuse a chance to win it on Odom's two-point conversion.
Offensive Running Back of the Week- Tylik Hill
The back recorded 28 carries for 140 yards. Both set new career-highs for the young running back from Asbury Park, NJ. Hill missed Week 3's loss against Pitt with an injury sustained in Week 2.
About Hatcher moving forward
Hatcher was named the team's Spring Offensive MVP during the spring football game, so he was primed for a big year. Of course, he'll continue to get more attention from defensive coordinators, but perhaps if Calvin Russell III can get going as he gets more acclimated, he'll help divert some attention away from Hatcher.
What could Hill's role be moving forward?
Head coach Fran Brown has gone with a running back by committee approach this season. Shavane Anderson Jr. was the lead back in Week 1 while Ju'Juan Johnson saw the most carries in Week 2. It was Ahmed Miller's turn in Week 3, and now Hill in Week 5.
Hill was the starter when healthy, so he figures to have the lead in the clubhouse, especially after a solid outing, but you just never know.
What's next for Hill, Hatcher and the rest Orange?
Both players will need to play a big part in the team's offense game plan when the Orange play their third consecutive road game in less than a month. Syracuse will travel to Charlottesville, Va. to take on the Virginia Cavaliers on Saturday. The Orange are listed as a 9 1/2 point underdog by Draftkings. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
