The senior pass catcher had a historic performance against Louisville.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The Syracuse Orange football team suffered its second straight loss on Saturday night at the JMA Wireless Dome, falling 34-26 against Louisville.
The Orange are now 2-4 overall and 0-4 inside ACC play. They haven't won an ACC game since September of 2025 when they beat Clemson.
Despite another tough loss, senior wide receiver Umari Hatcher had one of the single-best statistical games by a Syracuse pass catcher in school history.
Let's dive in.
About the history...
Hatcher finished the game with a total of 13 catches for 224 yards and a touchdown.
-The 13 catches in a single game is tied for the sixth-highest number ever recorded by an Orange player. The record is 17 catches set by Ervin Phillips in 2017.
-The 224 yards is the fifth-highest total. The school record is held by Amba Etta Tawo, who had 270 yards in 2016.
Is Hatcher pacing to break any Syracuse receiving records?
Yes. Hatcher, after six games, has posted 50 catches for 784 yards and seven touchdown. The Orange are slated to play six more regular season games. If Hatcher keeps the same pace, that would give him 100 catches for 1,568 yards and 14 touchdowns.
--The 100 catches would be the 2nd-highest total in a single season, falling just short to Steve Ishmael's 105 in 2017.
--The 1,568 yards would be the highest total in a single season passing Amba Etta-Tawo's 1,482 in 2016.
--The 14 touchdowns would be tied for first in a single season matching Amba Etta-Tawo in 2016 and Tommy Kane in 1987.
--The projected stats would also place Hatcher third in career receptions and receiving yards and seven in career receiving touchdowns,
In 2026, bowl game stats are included. Despite being 2-4, the Orange could still qualify for a bowl game and help Hatcher's chances to move even higher up the school record book.
What's the future look like for Hatcher?
If Hatcher continues on this pace, the senior pass catcher will find himself in the discussion for a first team All-ACC selection. It is even likely that Hatcher could be named a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award, an award that honors the best pass catcher yearly in college football. Earlier this month, Hatcher was already named to the award's watch list.
Along with school records and awards, Hatcher is also increasing his likelihood of playing in the NFL.
Hatcher and his teammates will travel to Chapel Hill, N.C. to take on the North Carolina Tar Heels. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday.
