The Syracuse University basketball programs are nearing the end of the regular season and both teams are looking to make a run in their respective Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) tournaments.
For the women, the tournament will likely serve as a way to play for seeding in the NCAA Tournament. They were recently projected to get to the tournament as a No. 9 seed. For the men, they are likely miss the NCAA Tournament for a fifth straight season barring a championship run in Charlotte, N.C.
Here's what you need to know:
It's been an excellent season overall for the Orange, who are now 21-7 and 11-6 inside league play.
The Orange have one game left in the regular season, against last-place Boston on Sunday, and they'll hope that presumptive win can help buoy them in the standings, where they are currently in a five-way tie for fifth-place.
1) Duke (16-1 ACC)
2) Louisville (15-2 ACC)
3) North Carolina (13-4 ACC)
4) NC State (12-5 ACC)
5) Syracuse (11-6)
t5) Virginia Tech, Clemson, Virginia, Notre Dame
Thing to note: There's something to be said for "beating the teams you're supposed to beat," and that's what the Orange have done. All of their losses are to each of the four teams ahead of them in the standings, along with the on-par Notre Dame and Virginia Tech.
It's been a difficult year for Adrian Autry's program, one that could result in serious changes at the end of the season.
Syracuse has three games left, at Wake Forest, at Louisville and against Pittsburgh, and currently sits at 15-13 overall and 6-9 in league play.
1) Duke (14-1 ACC)
2) Virginia (13-2)
3) Miami (11-4)
4) North Carolina (10-5)
t4) Clemson (10-5)
t4) NC State (10-5)
7) Louisville (9-6)
8) Cal (8-7)
t8) SMU (8-7)
10) Virginia Tech (7-8)
t10) Florida State (7-8)
12) Stanford (6-9)
t12) Syracuse
Note: Notre Dame, Pitt and Georgia Tech all trail SU in the standings, and they account for three of Syracuse's six wins. The Orange have also beaten Cal, SMU and Florida State thus far.
Fortunately, Wake Forest and Pitt are winnable games and should give SU a chance to get to at least 8-10 in the conference. It won't help them much in the ACC Tournament, but for a team that needs all the help it can get, it's noteworthy.
The Orange will tip-off against Wake Forest at 5:45 p.m. ET on Saturday.
