When college football’s early signing day concludes Wednesday, Syracuse won’t have the highest-ranked 2026 class or the most five-star commits. But it certainly won’t lack star power.
Headlining the class will be Syracuse native Nau’Jour Grainger, better known as Billboard Hot 100 recording artist Toosii. The 25-year-old played at Rolesville High School in North Carolina, a wide receiver and kick returner, but he transitioned to music after high school.
In August, he said he was doing the opposite: leaving music behind for now to play football. On Monday, he made it official with a post to Instagram, saying he intended to prove wrong the people who said his time for football had passed.
"Committed," Toosii posted on Instagram. "For every kid who ever had a dream, make it reality. … To be born in Syracuse and move to North Carolina at age 12 and haven't been back since. When Coach Fran called, I knew it was a sign from God. So with that being said, Cuse I'm coming home."
His new teammates probably will be more familiar with him for his songs than his passing routes. His “Favorite Song” single reached No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2023, three years after the debut of his first album. “Favorite Song” is off his second studio album, called “Naujour,” which hit No. 19 on the Billboard 200.
Grainger is 5-foot-8, 165 pounds and is expected to play at wide receiver for head coach Fran Brown and the Orange. He does not have a 247Sports composite ranking but had an offer from Sacramento State.
Photos on his Instagram account show him on visits to Duke and North Carolina State.
So just who is joining Grainger at Syracuse?
The 247Sports composite reports the Orange 2026 class consists of 26 commitments. The headliner is Calvin Russell, a 6-foot-5, 195-pound wide receiver from Northwestern High School in Miami. He is listed as a four-star recruit, the No 9 player at his position and the No. 70 overall in the nation by the composite, but some individual recruiting services consider him to be a five-star.
Two other four-stars are committed to Syracuse. The first is Russell’s current teammate, Tedarius Hughes, who is ranked as the No. 33 safety in the class. The second is another wide receiver, Amare Gough from Thomas Jefferson in Richmond, Va., No. 57 at the position.
In the wake of Syracuse’s 70-7 loss to Notre Dame on Nov. 22 and a season-ending 3-9 record, four prospects decommitted from the Orange. There are schools that tried to wrestle away Russell, who holds offers from multiple Power Four schools, but he said last month that he remained firmly committed to Brown and Syracuse.
