Syracuse freshman guard Aaron Womack plans to use his redshirt in the 2025-26 basketball season.
The school made the announcement Friday.
The 6-foot-6 Womack signed with the Orange in late 2024 and enrolled at Syracuse in August. From Milwaukee, he played at Dominican High School and became the 60th player in Wisconsin high school basketball history to score at least 2,000 career points,
As a senior, he averaged 28.8 points, 11.1 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 2.3 steals and 2.8 blocks per game. He had 15 double-doubles on the season and was named First-Team All-Metro Classic Conference as a junior and senior. The 247Sports composite ranked him as a three-star player and listed him as the No. 71 small forward in the nation and the No. 8 player in Wisconsin in the 2025 class.
Players taking a redshirt season are eligible to practice with the team, dress for games and sit on the bench, and attend classes.
Womack is one of five freshmen on the Orange roster. He is the only one not to see any game action.

Syracuse (5-3) is in the midst of a nine-day break between games. They got their biggest win of the season on Tuesday with a 62-60 win over No. 13 Tennessee in the ACC/SEC Challenge at the JMA Wireless Dome. William Kyle III and Sadiq White Jr. hit late free throws to seal the Orange.
Nate Kingz led the Orange with 19 points.
It was the first victory for Syracuse over a top-15 opponent since defeating No. 7 North Carolina on Feb. 13, 2024.
Once they return from this break, the Orange will have a packed schedule of nonconference games heading into the holidays with five contests, all at home at the dome.
Syracuse’s upcoming schedule: St. Joseph’s (Dec. 11), Hofstra (Dec. 13), Mercyhurst (Dec. 17), Northeastern (Dec. 20) and Stonehill (Dec. 22). The Orange end the 2025 portion of their schedule with an Atlantic Coast Conference game in Syracuse against Clemson on the afternoon of Dec. 31.
