FORT WORTH - TCU basketball is peaking at the right time, and Tuesday night in Lubbock is the ultimate measuring stick.
The Horned Frogs (19-10, 9-7 Big 12) travel to face No. 10 Texas Tech (22-7, 12-4) in their final road game of the regular season, carrying momentum, defensive grit, and a legitimate shot at a resume-defining win.
Jamie Dixon’s squad has won six of its last seven games, the program’s best seven-game Big 12 stretch ever.
During that run, TCU has bullied opponents on the glass, posting a plus-6.6 rebounding margin while forcing nearly 14 turnovers per game.
This isn’t smoke and mirrors - the Frogs rank 23rd nationally in defensive efficiency (98.2) according to KenPom and sit near the top of the Big 12 in steals, blocks, and turnover margin.
Sophomore David Punch continues to anchor the attack, leading TCU with 13.9 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. He’s also averaging 2.1 blocks, third-best in the Big 12 and 24th nationally.
Xavier Edmonds has elevated his game in conference play, averaging 14.6 points and 8.6 rebounds in the Big 12, with nine double-doubles this season - tied for the league lead.
Micah Robinson’s insertion into the starting lineup has been a quiet turning point.
TCU is 5-1 since the move, and Robinson is scoring 14.0 points per game in that span. Add in Brock Harding’s steady hand - 5.9 assists per game (third in the Big 12) - and Liutauras Lelevicius shooting 40.2 percent from three (46.9 percent in league play), and the Frogs suddenly look balanced and dangerous.
But this trip won’t be easy. Texas Tech ranks ninth nationally in offensive efficiency and leads the Big 12 with 11.5 made 3-pointers per game. Since JT Toppin’s season-ending injury, Christian Anderson has taken over, averaging 19.4 points and 7.7 assists.
TCU has proven it can hang with the best, already knocking off No. 5 Iowa State and No. 10 Florida this season. A win Tuesday would secure the program’s 20th victory for the fourth time in five years and send a loud message heading into the postseason.
The Frogs have the defense. They have the rebounding edge. Now they need the knockout punch.
