TCU vs. West Virginia Preview: Micah Robinson, David Punch Lead Frogs cover image

TCU returns home to face West Virginia as Micah Robinson and David Punch try to spark a Big 12 bounce-back in Fort Worth.

FORT WORTH - TCU is back inside Schollmaier Arena with something to prove. After an 82-71 setback against UCF, where Micah Robinson poured in 20 points, the Horned Frogs (16-10, 6-7 Big 12) look to reset against West Virginia (16-10, 7-6 Big 12) in a pivotal conference matchup Saturday in Fort Worth.

Big 12 positioning and momentum heading into the stretch run are both on the line.

TCU has been solid at home, posting an 11-5 mark, and the Frogs have shown they can survive tight finishes, going 3-2 in one-possession games.

Offensively, they average 72.5 points per contest and knock down 7.4 3-pointers per game - nearly identical to the 7.5 3s West Virginia typically allows.

Inside, David Punch remains steady. The sophomore is shooting an efficient 52.5 percent from the field and averaging 14.2 points per game.

Xavier Edmonds has been heating up as well, contributing 15.7 points per game over the last 10 outings.

West Virginia arrives with a defensive identity, too. The Mountaineers are holding opponents to just 63.7 points per game, second-best in the Big 12, and limiting teams to 41.4 percent shooting.

Honor Huff leads the offensive charge at 15.5 points per game, while Treysen Eaglestaff has added perimeter punch, averaging nearly two made threes per game over his last 10.

Both teams have mirrored each other recently, each going 5-5 in their last 10 games.

The difference may come down to tempo. TCU prefers to push and generate offense through ball movement (14.1 assists per game over its last 10), while West Virginia thrives in grind-it-out defensive battles.

Saturday marks the first meeting between the two in conference play this season - and in the Big 12, first impressions matter.
