TCU women’s basketball shuts down BYU 63-46 in the Big 12 Tournament as Olivia Miles sets an assist record and Marta Suarez leads the Horned Frogs.

TCU women’s basketball continues its march through the Big 12 Tournament, overpowering BYU 63-46 in the quarterfinals behind relentless defense and balanced scoring.

The No. 1-seeded Horned Frogs, already crowned Big 12 regular-season champions, now move into the semifinals with momentum and a chance to defend their conference tournament title.

The tone was set almost immediately as TCU wasted no time establishing control, racing out to a commanding first-quarter lead fueled by guard Taylor Bigby, who erupted for 11 points in the opening period.

Bigby knocked down four straight shots, including multiple 3-pointers, as the Horned Frogs jumped ahead early and never looked back.

While Bigby sparked the start, forward Marta Suarez provided the steady production throughout the game. Suarez finished with 17 points and eight rebounds, leading TCU in scoring and helping maintain a comfortable cushion whenever BYU threatened to rally.

The Horned Frogs’ defense, however, was the real difference-maker.

TCU suffocated BYU’s offense all afternoon, holding the Cougars to just 27 percent shooting (17-of-63) from the field. The interior defense proved especially dominant. Centers Clara Silva and Kennedy Basham combined for eight blocked shots, repeatedly shutting down BYU’s attempts to attack the paint.

Meanwhile, star guard Olivia Miles quietly delivered a historic performance.

Miles recorded a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double while also dishing out six assists, pushing her season total to 209 assists.

That mark sets a new TCU single-season record, surpassing the previous record of 204 set by Hailey Van Lith a season ago.

Although BYU made a push midway through the game, the Horned Frogs never lost control.

The Cougars briefly cut the deficit to single digits with an 11-2 run late in the third quarter, sparked by Delaney Gibb, who led BYU with 17 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. But every time momentum started to swing, TCU responded with timely baskets and suffocating defense.

By the fourth quarter, the Horned Frogs had rebuilt a double-digit lead and slammed the door shut.

Now, TCU turns its attention to the Big 12 Tournament semifinals, where the Horned Frogs will face Kansas State.

The Wildcats arrive with momentum after winning three consecutive tournament games, becoming the lowest seed ever to reach the Big 12 semifinals.

But if TCU continues to defend as it did against BYU, the Horned Frogs may be just two wins away from another conference championship.
