'A Different Challenge...' TCU's Sonny Dykes Ahead of West Virginia Showdown

TCU is gearing up for another Big 12 contest against West Virginia and Sonny Dykes feels that the Mountaineers pose a set of challenges that is unlike anything the Horned Frogs have seen this season.

TCU earned the Big 12 win that had been eluding it all season long and the Horned Frogs are ready to turn that initial success into an outpouring to wrap up the schedule.

During a road trip to Waco that many outside of the program felt heavily favored the rival Baylor Bears, the Horned Frogs took care of business in a 17-6 victory that was dominated by them from start to finish.

The next opponent on the list for TCU is West Virginia, which enters the matchup with a similar record but an entirely different path to end up there.

The Mountaineers sit at 4-3 and 1-3 in the Big 12 after dropping three straight conference contests before ending the skid in a 45-42 shootout against Cincinnati last weekend.

Much like TCU, West Virginia has found itself in a handful of one-score games, with most not going their way, but the cause of those tight games has been the result of lackluster defense.

On the other hand, the Horned Frogs have touted a stout defense but have struggled to kindle an offensive flame in many of its Big 12 matchups that eventually slipped out of their grasp.

With a similar storyline yet opposite styles from both teams, Saturday's matchup in Fort Worth headlines as one of the most intriguing in the conference this weekend.

Ahead of the chess-match battle, TCU head coach Sonny Dykes shared his thoughts on the Mountaineers during his weekly media availability.

"They're the fastest paced offense in the country...you have to be able to adapt and adjust quickly," explained Dykes. "It's a very difficult scheme. They're very good at what they do."

Dykes continued by praising his team's solid defensive effort against the Bears but emphasized the leap in difficulty posed by West Virginia.

"We just played really, really good defense. To not give up a touchdown to a team that just put up 55 on a Big 12 team on the road...just really, really proud of that. They feel good about what they're doing."

"This is going to be a different challenge on Saturday. It's just different what West Virginia does," expressed Dykes.

The age-old question of what happens when an immovable object meets an unstoppable force will get an answer, at least in terms of Big 12 football, when TCU hosts West Virginia on Saturday morning at 11 a.m.
