Becca Kelley erupted for 23 kills and Alice Volpe added 27 digs as No. 11 TCU beat Michigan in four sets to stay hot at the South Florida Invitational.
No. 11 TCU volleyball kept rolling Friday, and once again Becca Kelley was at the center of it.
Kelley delivered a season-high 23 kills as the Horned Frogs defeated Michigan in four sets, 25-19, 25-23, 17-25, 25-23, at the South Florida Invitational in Tampa.
The victory moved TCU to 5-2 and gave the Frogs another strong result during a road stretch that has quickly built momentum.
TCU’s offense was sharp from the start.
The Frogs finished with 65 kills and a .321 hitting percentage, led by Kelley’s .327 clip. Evan Hendrix added 19 kills while hitting .372, and freshman Kinsley Young chipped in a season-best 10 kills on 20 attacks, good for a .400 percentage.
Setter Rosemary Archer kept the offense moving with 37 assists while also collecting 10 digs for a double-double.
The opening set set the tone. TCU generated 23 kills with only two attacking errors and hit .467, then closed on a 5-0 run after Michigan pulled within 20-19.
The second set was tighter.
Michigan cut a six-point deficit to one late, but Hendrix stopped the rally with a kill before Kelley finished the set at 25-23 to give TCU a commanding two-set advantage.
The Wolverines answered in the third, using strong serving and multiple scoring runs to take the frame 25-17.
TCU didn’t let the match get away.
Michigan built a 16-12 lead in the fourth, but Kelley helped spark another comeback. The Frogs eventually tied the set at 18 before Reese Robins and Jalyn Gibson supplied key late points.
Archer then won a battle at the net to create match point, and Kelley delivered the final swing.
Defense mattered just as much.
Alice Volpe finished with 27 digs, matching the highest single-match total by a Big 12 player this season. De’Andrea McMillian added four blocks as TCU steadied itself after Michigan’s third-set push.
The result also extends an impressive stretch for Kelley, who entered the tournament as the reigning Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week. She had already posted 16 kills in Thursday’s sweep of USF.
TCU closes the South Florida Invitational Saturday at noon CT against Dayton.
Another win would give the Frogs a clean sweep of the weekend and even more momentum heading toward Big 12 play.
