Returning to the site of his brother's tragic death, the Raiders wide receiver seeks to reclaim the Superdome by transforming a place of grief into a triumph.
For Jack Bech, Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints will be about much more than football.
The Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver will return to the city where his older brother, Tiger, was killed during the New Year’s Day 2025 attack on Bourbon Street. Bech has spent the time since then keeping his brother’s memory alive, and his return to the Superdome will provide an opportunity to create a new memory in a place that has become associated with immense loss.
Bech spent part of his college career at TCU, where Tiger was a constant source of support during his standout 2024 season. Tiger, a former Princeton football player, attended Bech’s games and encouraged his younger brother throughout his football journey.
Now, Bech is preparing to play his first NFL game in New Orleans.
"I just want to rewrite this wrong in New Orleans," Bech told The Athletic. "Get that nasty, dirty taste out of our mouth."
The game carries additional significance because New Orleans was a place where the Bech family had created so many positive memories. Jack grew up traveling to the Superdome to watch the Saints, making Sunday’s matchup something of a full-circle moment for him.
He also knows there will be plenty of emotions attached to stepping onto the field.
Bech said he has been thinking about the game since the Raiders' schedule was released and expects the experience to be surreal. With friends and family expected to be in attendance, he will have plenty of support as he attempts to turn a painful chapter into something more positive.
Tiger’s influence has remained a major part of Bech’s football career even after his death. Bech has repeatedly credited his brother for helping him reach the NFL and has continued to honor him through his actions, including after scoring his first NFL touchdown earlier this season.
"I want to live on my brother’s legacy through everything we do each and every day, always and for the rest of time," Bech said.
That promise will be especially visible Sunday.
Bech will enter the Superdome carrying the memory of his brother with him, while also attempting to reclaim a place that once represented happy family memories. For the former TCU standout, the game will be another opportunity to honor Tiger and continue the legacy he promised to carry forward.
