Jordan Dwyer’s return gave TCU’s passing game an immediate lift Saturday, offering a badly needed positive despite the Horned Frogs’ loss to UC
FORT WORTH - TCU didn’t leave Orlando with the result it wanted Saturday, but Jordan Dwyer’s return gave the Horned Frogs something legitimate to build around.
After missing the first three games of the 2026 season with a foot injury, Dwyer finally returned to the lineup against UCF and immediately reminded TCU what it had been missing.
The veteran wide receiver finished with five receptions for 100 yards, providing one of the strongest performances by a Horned Frog in the 21-13 loss.
That’s a significant development for quarterback Jaden Craig and an offense that has spent the first month of the season trying to establish a dependable group of playmakers.
Dwyer was expected to be TCU’s No. 1 outside receiver entering the season after catching 54 passes for 730 yards and seven touchdowns in 2025. His absence forced younger receivers into larger roles, with Ed Small emerging as one of Craig’s most reliable targets.
Now TCU doesn’t have to choose between them.
Dwyer’s return gives the Horned Frogs another proven downfield threat and could make Small even more dangerous by forcing opposing defenses to divide their attention.
Sonny Dykes had been optimistic about Dwyer’s return throughout the week.
“We expect Jordan to play,” Dykes said leading into the game, describing his return as a potential “big lift” for the offense.
That prediction proved accurate.
TCU’s overall offensive performance against UCF was uneven, and Craig threw two interceptions as the Horned Frogs struggled to finish drives. But Dwyer looked comfortable despite the long layoff and showed little evidence of rust.
For a team now facing an uphill climb after dropping its Big 12 opener, that matters.
TCU has plenty to fix.
But it also just added a 730-yard receiver back into the lineup, and Saturday’s performance suggested Dwyer could become an immediate difference-maker as conference play continues.
The loss hurt.
Dwyer’s return gives the Horned Frogs at least one reason to believe the offense can get better quickly.
