Horned Frogs tight end Kari Ashley dominated the air with 108 yards and a touchdown, providing a reliable spark for TCU against the Cougars' defense.

TCU walked away from Saturday night’s matchup with No. 10 BYU with another disappointing result, but the Horned Frogs did have a few positives to take away from the 17-10 loss.

Perhaps none was more encouraging than the performance of tight end Kari Ashley.

With TCU’s offense struggling to consistently move the football against one of the Big 12’s top teams, Ashley provided a reliable target throughout the night. The junior tight end finished the game with six receptions for 108 yards and a touchdown, accounting for a significant portion of the Horned Frogs’ production through the air.

Ashley’s biggest moment came in the second quarter when he connected with quarterback Jaden Craig for a 13-yard touchdown. The score gave TCU its first points of the night and tied the game at 7-7, providing the Horned Frogs with some much-needed momentum.

It was another indication of the role Ashley could play in TCU’s offense moving forward.

The Horned Frogs entered the season looking for playmakers who could help replace some of the production lost from last year's roster, and Ashley appears increasingly capable of being one of those players. His ability to make plays down the field while also serving as a dependable target could be particularly valuable as TCU works through Big 12 play.

The performance was also encouraging considering the opponent. BYU entered the game ranked among the nation's top teams and had yet to lose this season. TCU ultimately held the Cougars to just 216 total yards, but the offense couldn't generate enough production to turn the defensive effort into a victory.

While a 17-10 loss is certainly not the result TCU wanted, Ashley's performance gives the Horned Frogs something to build around.

If TCU can find ways to keep getting Ashley more involved in the passing game, Saturday's performance could prove to be the beginning of a much larger role for the talented tight end.

For a team searching for offensive consistency, having a player capable of producing 108 receiving yards against a top-10 opponent is certainly a development worth watching.
