TCU head coach Sonny Dykes was left feeling impressed by the Horned Frogs in their gritty 17-6 rivalry win over Baylor to keep their hopes this season alive.
TCU took care of business in hostile territory with a 17-6 upset win over Baylor at McLane Stadium in Waco.
With all eyes on the upstart Bears boasting a 4-1 record, the Horned Frogs stole the spotlight in their first victory of Big 12 play and snapped a two-game skid in the process.
It was all the more sweeter for TCU to get its season back on track at the expense of one of its bitterest of rivals.
The Horned Frogs can now brag 10 wins across the last 12 meetings of the longstanding series with the Bears, known as "The Revivalry."
Off the triumphant effort, TCU head coach Sonny Dykes reflected on the bounce-back performance showcased by his team in Waco.
"It was good to see us play as hard as we played...we played really, really hard across the board, offense, defense, special teams," said Dykes.
For a team defined by inconsistency in the early part of its schedule, the defense had always stood as a cornerstone for TCU amidst those struggles.
That was on no greater display than in Saturday's win over Baylor, as the Horned Frogs totally shut down a Bears offense led by quarterback DJ Lagway that appeared to be hitting its stride.
"To come on the road and hold a team that scored 55 points last week to two field goals is pretty impressive," gushed Dykes.
After dropping two straight winnable matchups and three within the year, TCU silenced the outside noise and Dykes took note of the resiliency from the Horned Frogs.
"College football is a tough deal...when you don't win football games, there's a lot of hate," said Dykes.
"I got to give our players credit for not listening to all the hate...I'm proud of them for the way that they handled it," he continued. "They did exactly what we asked them to do and it showed up."
Even in the impressive outing, there were still things that stuck out for Dykes to focus on improving ahead of the final Big 12 stretch.
"It wasn't perfect. We got a lot of things to improve on," he expressed.
Despite the improvement from weeks past, the offense for TCU continued to draw particular attention.
"We're still a work in progress offensively but I saw some positive signs," said Dykes.
"We lost three one-score games and we did that because we weren't able to score enough points...and so we have to continue to get better offensively."
At the end of the day, TCU is back in the win column and the Horned Frogs sit at 3-3 with a chance to get on the right side of the record next weekend.
"I love this team. I love these guys. We got a win and now we got a chance to get another one next week and keep moving forward," expressed Dykes.
