Favored by 6.5 points against North Carolina, the Horned Frogs aim to capitalize on Big 12 volatility with a veteran roster and high-upside transfer quarterback Jaden Craig.

FORT WORTH - TCU football is presently perched atop a teeter-totter of sorts.

As it regards the 2026 Big 12 race, TCU seems good enough to matter, overlooked enough to strike. … but imperfect enough to falter.

Which way will the teeter-totter lean?

We will find out soon. … starting in Week 1, where the odds have been set.

North Carolina vs. TCU? The Horned Frogs are favored by 6.5 points … a sign of respect that Fort Worth fans hope is justified.

To some, the Horned Frogs land in that second tier of Big 12 contenders behind teams like BYU and Texas Tech, but this league hasn’t exactly rewarded safe predictions lately.

Exhibit A: This is a conference in which Arizona State can go from 3-9 to champion, a place where traditional favorites can wobble into obscurity overnight.

So … the Horned Frogs don’t need to be perfect. They just need to be ready.

Eight of the last nine Big 12 title games have featured at least one new participant, which means volatility isn’t a bug. It’s the brand.

That’s where Coach Sonny Dykes’ team might just make things interesting.

TCU returns multiple starters along the offensive line, which is a massive starting point in a conference loaded with defensive questions.

The Frogs also bring back more than half of their defense from a roster that already stacked up well from a talent standpoint. That combination gives TCU a real foundation, especially if the offense finds a higher gear.

The swing piece on the teeter-totter might be transfer quarterback Jaden Craig.

Craig arrives with breakout potential, and Dykes has made a career out of getting quarterbacks comfortable and dangerous. If Craig becomes more than just steady, TCU’s ceiling changes fast.

TCU’s current Big 12 title odds sit around +1900, which screams “sleeper value” more than longshot fantasy. The Frogs aren’t being priced like a favorite, but they’re not rebuilding, either. They’re lurking. … with a chance to show off their potential starting as Week 1 favorites.
