TCU is trending for Whitney athlete Kobe Haynes, a versatile 2027 playmaker with huge numbers and serious Big 12 appeal.

TCU recruiting has been in the Kobe Haynes race for a long time, and that might matter more than anything as the Whitney, Texas, standout moves closer to a decision.

Haynes, one of the most versatile offensive weapons in the 2027 cycle, first camped at TCU back in April 2023.

Since then, the Horned Frogs have stayed active, stayed connected and made it clear they see him as more than just another name on the board.

Wide receivers coach Malcolm Kelly offered Haynes in October, and that relationship has helped keep TCU near the front of a crowded recruitment.

Haynes has TCU in his top six along with Baylor, Kansas, Minnesota, Mississippi State and Stanford.

He also holds offers from Texas Tech, SMU, Houston, UTSA, Utah, Duke, Kansas State, Colorado State and North Texas.

That’s a serious list, but TCU has some obvious advantages.

Fort Worth isn’t far from home, which gives the Horned Frogs a built-in geographic edge.

TCU can also sell a pass-friendly Big 12 environment, a strong academic pitch and a recent history of putting receivers into the NFL.

For a player like Haynes, who wants the ball in space and understands offensive opportunity, that combination has teeth.

His 2025 season showed exactly why schools are pushing.

Haynes helped Whitney go 10-3, win a District 5-3A title and reach the regional semifinals.

He was named District MVP after producing in every possible way. He threw for 1,474 yards and 15 touchdowns, rushed for 1,438 yards and 23 scores, and added 640 receiving yards with seven more touchdowns.

That’s not a stat line. That’s a weekly defensive coordinator’s migraine.

The biggest question is where Haynes ultimately fits in college. Receiver seems like the clean projection, but his production as a passer and runner shows the kind of football IQ and athletic adaptability coaches love.

TCU’s offense could use him creatively, whether as a true wideout, motion weapon or gadget nightmare.

Sonny Dykes’ staff has also made relationships a major part of the pitch. Haynes has been in regular contact with the Horned Frogs, and that early, consistent attention could pay off.

No official visits are locked in yet, so this recruitment still has room to move. But right now, TCU looks dangerous.

And for the Frogs, landing Haynes would be another loud win in Texas.
