TCU returns home searching for its first win of 2026 as the Horned Frogs host unbeaten Grambling State under the lights at Amon G. Carter Stadium.
TCU gets a chance to steady itself Saturday night when the Horned Frogs host Grambling State in their 2026 home opener at Amon G. Carter Stadium.
The matchup comes after TCU opened the season with a 15-10 loss to North Carolina, a game that put immediate pressure on Sonny Dykes’ team to find more consistency on offense.
Grambling, meanwhile, enters Fort Worth at 2-0, giving the Horned Frogs an opponent with momentum instead of a simple tune-up game.
The biggest focus for TCU will be quarterback Josh Hoover’s replacement, Jaden Craig, and whether the offense can generate more explosive plays.
Craig enters the week with 175 passing yards on 20 completions in 32 attempts, while running back Jeremy Payne has been the most productive part of the ground game with 142 rushing yards on 25 carries.
TCU also needs more from its passing targets. Eric Small leads the Horned Frogs with 65 receiving yards on nine catches, but the offense has yet to show the kind of downfield threat needed to stretch defenses consistently.
Grambling presents a different challenge.
Quarterback Reginald "RJ" Johnson has already thrown for 391 yards, completing 33 of 40 passes with one touchdown and one interception. The Tigers have also gotten production from Tony Phillips Jr., who has 94 rushing yards and two touchdowns, while Jordan Bride leads the receiving corps with 142 yards on 10 catches.
That balance gives TCU’s defense something to prepare for.
The Horned Frogs do have reasons for confidence. Linebacker Max Carroll has 10 tackles through the opener, while Ansel Din-Mbuh has already recorded two sacks.
If TCU can consistently pressure Johnson and force Grambling behind the chains, it should be able to control the game.
The larger question is how quickly the Horned Frogs can take command offensively.
Saturday’s game is exactly the kind of matchup where TCU needs to establish confidence early, avoid turnovers and get its playmakers into rhythm before tougher games arrive later in September.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT, with the game available on ESPN+. For TCU, this one is about more than simply getting into the win column.
It’s about looking like a team that has corrected Week 1’s problems and is ready to move forward.
