Former TCU catcher Nolan Traeger is headed to Arkansas, leaving the Horned Frogs without one of their most productive portal names.
TCU baseball just took a loud transfer portal punch behind the plate.
Former Horned Frogs catcher Nolan Traeger has committed to Arkansas, giving the Razorbacks a proven veteran catcher and taking one of TCU’s most productive bats out of Fort Worth.
For a program trying to keep its roster steady in the modern portal chaos, this one stings.
Traeger, a 6-0, 215-pound rising junior from Spring, Texas, wasn’t some depth piece looking for a fresh start.
He was a Freshman All-American in 2025, a second-team All-Big 12 selection as a freshman and talented enough to earn an invitation to try out for the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team last summer.
In 2026, Traeger hit .287 with four home runs, eight doubles and 34 RBI across 46 games and 44 starts for TCU.
He also drew 25 walks and posted a .399 on-base percentage, showing the kind of plate discipline that plays anywhere.
His freshman season was even louder, as he batted .327 with three homers, two doubles, three triples, 17 RBI, 21 walks and a .429 OBP in 47 games.
Now that production is headed to Fayetteville.
Arkansas badly needed a catcher with All-American Ryder Helfrick projected as a first-round MLB Draft pick.
Traeger fits that need immediately and gives the Razorbacks another major piece in what has become one of the country’s most aggressive transfer hauls.
Baseball America ranks Traeger as the No. 25 player in this year’s portal, while 64Analytics has him at No. 49.
He becomes Arkansas’ 13th public transfer commitment this offseason and the sixth position player in the group.
For TCU, the loss is simple and brutal ... starting-caliber catchers with Traeger’s bat, experience and defensive value aren’t easy to replace.
The Horned Frogs have survived portal hits before. But losing Nolan Traeger to Arkansas is the kind of move that changes a lineup, a clubhouse and a pitching staff all at once.
