TCU men’s tennis dropped doubles but stormed back in singles to beat No. 12 UCF, 4-1, extending the Horned Frogs’ outdoor home win streak.
FORT WORTH - TCU men’s tennis showed off its toughness Friday afternoon, shaking off an early deficit to beat No. 12 UCF, 4-1, in a key Big 12 matchup in Fort Worth. The No. 5 Horned Frogs lost the doubles point, then flipped the entire match with a dominant response in singles.
That turnaround said plenty about this group.
TCU men’s tennis improved to 14-5 overall, and 3-1 in Big 12 play with the win, and the result added another impressive line to an already strong resume.
UCF entered the match ranked 12th nationally, making the Knights the eighth top-25 opponent the Horned Frogs have beaten this season.
The recovery started quickly once singles began. Duncan Chan, ranked No. 7 nationally, delivered a steady performance on court one and knocked off No. 71 Yassine Dlimi in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. Cooper Woestendick followed with another clean result, taking down No. 83 Wissam Abderrahman 6-3, 6-2 to give TCU full momentum.
Albert Pedrico pushed the Frogs closer to the finish line with a 7-5, 6-2 win on court four. From there, Oliver Bonding provided the clincher and one of the most important moments of the afternoon.
After dropping the first set, Bonding rallied to beat Mehdi Benchakroun 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 and seal the match.
That kind of response mattered even more because TCU was playing without Cosme Rolland De Ravel and had to adjust its doubles pairings again. The Horned Frogs couldn’t secure the opening point, but they didn’t let the match drift.
The win also kept TCU’s outdoor dominance intact. The Horned Frogs have now won 27 straight outdoor home matches and are 53-2 at home over the last four seasons.
For a team with championship ambitions, this was the kind of performance that stands out. TCU didn’t panic, didn’t fold after doubles, and simply took control where it mattered most.
Sunday brings another home test against St. John’s, but Friday was a reminder that these Horned Frogs can win even when the match doesn’t start their way.
