TCU baseball blanked Utah 3-0 behind four pitchers, three hits allowed and Colton Griffin’s two-run single as the Frogs reached 30 wins.

TCU baseball delivered one of its sharpest Big 12 pitching performances of the season Friday night, shutting out Utah 3-0 at Lupton Stadium behind a four-arm effort from Tommy LaPour, Trever Baumler, Mason Brassfield and Tanner Sagouspe.

The Horned Frogs held Utah, one of the better hitting teams in the Big 12, to just three hits and never let the Utes build a sustained threat.

Utah put only two runners on third base all night and didn’t record a hit after the sixth inning.

LaPour set the tone in his first start since opening weekend. The left-hander allowed one hit over three scoreless innings, walked two and struck out three to earn the win.

Baumler followed with three shutout frames of his own, giving up two hits with two strikeouts. Brassfield handled the seventh and eighth, striking out two, before Sagouspe slammed the door in the ninth.

It wasn’t completely stress-free. Sagouspe walked the leadoff batter, but then punched out three straight hitters to secure his fourth save of the season.

TCU’s offense didn’t need much. Sawyer Strosnider led off the fourth with a triple and scored on a wild pitch to make it 1-0.

The Frogs added breathing room in the fifth after Preston Gamster doubled to put two runners in scoring position. Colton Griffin then attacked the first pitch and drove a two-run single into left field.

Griffin also made a key defensive play earlier, throwing out a Utah runner at the plate from left field in the second inning.

He finished with his 11th multi-hit game of the season and extended his hitting streak to six games.

With the win, TCU improved to 30-18 overall and 14-11 in Big 12 play. The series continues Saturday, with Lance Davis scheduled to start on ESPN+.
