TCU football enters 2026 with Jaden Craig, Noah McKinney and Terry Shelton carrying the pressure after major roster turnover.

FORT WORTH - TCU football is walking into 2026 with a brand-new identity, and there’s no hiding from the pressure.

With Josh Hoover, Eric McAlister and several familiar names no longer anchoring the Horned Frogs, TCU on SI observed that the spotlight now shifts to Jaden Craig, Noah McKinney and Terry Shelton.

That’s college football now. Rosters don’t reload quietly anymore. They flip, shift, reload and sometimes completely reinvent themselves in one offseason. For TCU, that creates risk. It also creates opportunity.

Craig is the biggest swing piece.

The Harvard transfer arrives in Fort Worth with the kind of body of work that makes people pay attention. He was productive in the Ivy League, brings mobility to the quarterback position and gives TCU a different kind of offensive ceiling than it has had recently.

But quarterback transfers don’t get long grace periods.

If Craig settles in quickly, the Horned Frogs could become one of the more dangerous teams in the Big 12. If he struggles, the entire rebuild could feel shaky fast.

That’s where McKinney becomes so important.

The former Oklahoma State offensive lineman won’t be the name casual fans talk about first, but he might be one of the most important players on the roster.

TCU needs protection, push and stability up front. McKinney gives the Horned Frogs a veteran trench piece at a time when their new quarterback can’t afford to spend every Saturday running for his life.

Football still starts up front. That hasn’t changed.

Then there’s Shelton, the player with the flash.

Terry Shelton hasn’t posted monster numbers yet, but the buzz is easy to understand. His catch against USC in the Alamo Bowl offered a quick glimpse of what could be coming.

TCU has built a strong receiver tradition with names like Josh Doctson, Quentin Johnston, Savion Williams and Eric McAlister. Shelton now gets his chance to become the next explosive playmaker in that line.

He doesn’t have to become a superstar overnight. But TCU badly needs him to become reliable, dynamic and dangerous enough to scare Big 12 defenses.

The Horned Frogs don’t need nostalgia in 2026. They need answers.

Craig has to command the offense. McKinney has to anchor the line. Shelton has to stretch the field.

If those three hit, TCU’s transition season could become something much louder.
