Former TCU golf star Stefano Mazzoli erased a four-shot deficit, won in just his third PGA Tour start and secured membership through the 2027 season.

Another TCU Horned Frog has officially arrived on golf’s biggest stage.

Former TCU standout Stefano Mazzoli has accepted PGA Tour membership after completing a dramatic comeback victory at the 2026 Corales Puntacana Championship.

The 29-year-old Italian will make his first start as a full Tour member at this week’s 3M Open.

Mazzoli didn’t simply earn his card through months of grinding. He grabbed it with a birdie on the final hole and one of the most unlikely victories of the PGA Tour season.

Starting Sunday four shots behind the lead, Mazzoli stormed through the field and defeated Gordon Sargent and Todd Clements by one stroke. His rally was the largest final-round comeback in tournament history.

It was also just his third career PGA Tour appearance.

That made Mazzoli only the sixth golfer to win within his first three Tour starts. He’s also now one of only three Italian players to win on the PGA Tour, joining Francesco Molinari and Toney Penna.

For TCU golf fans, however, Mazzoli’s breakthrough carries some extra weight.

Before battling his way through Europe’s developmental circuits, Mazzoli built his game in Fort Worth.

He was a two-time All-Big 12 selection for the Horned Frogs, earned PING All-Central Region recognition twice and shared medalist honors at the NCAA Austin Regional during his senior season.

He was also named a semifinalist for the Jack Nicklaus Award in 2018 and represented Europe in the Arnold Palmer Cup.

Mazzoli’s journey after TCU wasn’t an overnight success story. He turned professional in 2019, won three times on the Alps Tour and eventually advanced to the HotelPlanner Tour.

An eighth-place finish on the Road to Mallorca earned him full DP World Tour privileges for 2025.

Now he owns something even bigger: PGA Tour status through the end of the 2027 season.

His Corales victory also earned him spots in the 2027 PLAYERS Championship and PGA Championship. Because he wasn’t a member when he won, Mazzoli didn’t receive the tournament’s 300 FedExCup points.

He can earn points moving forward, however, and could still qualify for the FedExCup Playoffs by reaching the top 70 after the Wyndham Championship.

Mazzoli’s breakthrough continues TCU’s growing impact across professional golf. The Horned Frogs helped turn him from a decorated European amateur into a player capable of surviving - and winning - on the sport’s toughest circuit.

He left Fort Worth with All-Big 12 honors.

Now Stefano Mazzoli is returning to the golf world’s spotlight with a PGA Tour trophy, a membership card and a Horned Frog resume that just became much more impressive.
