The Horned Frogs forward lands on the Top 100 list after a breakout year, positioning the veteran leader as a vital anchor for TCU’s Big 12 campaign.
TCU forward Xavier Edmonds is entering the 2026-27 college basketball season with plenty of expectations, and CBS Sports is recognizing his potential to become one of the top players in the country.
Edmonds landed at No. 69 in CBS Sports' annual Top 100 And 1 players ranking, giving the Horned Frogs another reason to feel optimistic about what lies ahead this season.
"After beginning his college career at a junior college, Edmonds transferred to TCU ahead of last season and emerged as one of the best players in the Big 12," Cameron Salerno writes. "Edmonds represents TCU's most experienced player returning after David Punch transferred to Texas this offseason."
Edmonds arrived at TCU before last season after beginning his collegiate career at the junior college level. He quickly established himself as a productive contributor, averaging 12.7 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. Those numbers helped him emerge as one of the more notable players in the Big 12 and positioned him to take on an even more significant role moving forward.
His ability to contribute as both a scorer and rebounder makes him an important piece of the Horned Frogs' plans. At 12.7 points per game, Edmonds demonstrated that he can provide consistent offensive production, while his rebounding numbers show that his impact extends beyond putting the ball in the basket. Maintaining that level of production will be essential as TCU looks to compete against some of the nation's strongest programs.
The timing of Edmonds' recognition is also significant because TCU will need experienced players to step forward following changes to its roster. David Punch transferred to Texas during the offseason, leaving Edmonds as the most experienced returning player. That makes his presence especially valuable as the Horned Frogs work to establish their identity for the upcoming season.
With head coach Jamie Dixon continuing to guide the program, Edmonds will have an opportunity to build on the foundation he established last season. His experience and production could help provide stability while allowing younger players and newcomers time to adjust to the demands of Big 12 basketball.
Although a preseason ranking does not guarantee success, Edmonds' placement at No. 69 signals that he is entering the season with national recognition. If he can improve on his previous production and embrace a larger leadership role, he could become one of the defining players of TCU's 2026-27 campaign.
