TCU tight end Kari Ashley joins the Biletnikoff Award watch list after piling up 510 receiving yards and emerging as one of college football's top pass catchers.
FORT WORTH - TCU football hasn't enjoyed the kind of season Sonny Dykes envisioned, but tight end Kari Ashley is giving Horned Frogs fans something worth celebrating.
Ashley was added to the 2026 Biletnikoff Award Watch List on Wednesday, recognizing a remarkable first season in Fort Worth that has placed him among college football's most productive pass catchers.
And here's what makes the recognition particularly impressive: Ashley isn't even a wide receiver.
The Biletnikoff Award honors the nation's outstanding receiver, regardless of position. Tight ends, running backs and other eligible pass catchers can compete for the award, although wide receivers traditionally dominate the conversation.
Ashley has made a compelling case for consideration.
Through seven games, the TCU standout has caught 35 passes for 510 yards and four touchdowns. His 14.6 yards per reception demonstrate an ability to stretch defenses that isn't commonly associated with tight ends.
Pro Football Focus has given Ashley a 91.7 receiving grade, the highest among qualified tight ends nationally.
He also leads the position in receiving yards and ranks second with 25 receiving first downs and 240 yards after the catch, according to TCU Athletics.
Those numbers tell a significant story about his value to the Horned Frogs.
Ashley isn't simply catching short passes and moving the chains. He's consistently turning opportunities into substantial gains, giving quarterback Jaden Craig another dangerous option in the passing game.
His production has already earned him a place in TCU's record books.
With 35 receptions, Ashley ranks sixth in school history for catches by a tight end. His 510 receiving yards place him fifth on the program's all-time tight end list.
And he's reached those marks in just seven games.
Ashley also gives TCU two players on the Biletnikoff Award Watch List.
Wide receiver Jordan Dwyer earned preseason recognition after a productive 2025 campaign that included 54 receptions, 730 yards and seven touchdowns.
The combination provides evidence that the Horned Frogs possess legitimate receiving talent even as the team struggles to translate offensive production into consistent victories.
The Biletnikoff Award selection process includes a national committee of 625 college football journalists, broadcasters, former receivers and previous award winners.
Semifinalists are scheduled to be announced November 10, with three finalists revealed November 24.
The honor is named after former Florida State standout and Pro Football Hall of Famer Fred Biletnikoff.
For Ashley, making the watch list is another milestone in an impressive debut season.
But there's a bigger opportunity ahead.
With several games remaining, Ashley has time to climb further up TCU's career rankings and strengthen his argument as one of the country's most dangerous receiving threats.
The Horned Frogs may be searching for answers in the Big 12 standings, but they've clearly found something special at tight end.
