TCU outfielder Sawyer Strosnider brings first-round tools, big power and real swing questions as the 2026 MLB Draft spotlight heats up for Texas Rangers fans.
Sawyer Strosnider might be one of the most fascinating TCU baseball names in the 2026 MLB Draft, and that’s exactly why the Texas Rangers should have him circled.
The Horned Frogs outfielder isn’t a clean, boring prospect. He’s not some low-risk college bat with one obvious lane to the majors.
Strosnider is different. He’s a 6-2, 200-pound left-handed hitter with loud tools, real power, plus speed and enough athleticism to make scouts dream big.
That’s the fun part. The tricky part is figuring out how much risk comes with the upside.
Strosnider arrived at TCU after going undrafted out of Brock, Texas, despite being a well-regarded high school prospect.
Once he got to Fort Worth, he quickly proved he belonged. In 2025, he won Big 12 Freshman of the Year after slashing .350/.420/.650 with 11 home runs, 20 walks and 47 strikeouts across 251 plate appearances.
His 2026 season looked different, but not disastrous. Strosnider hit .273 with a .415 on-base percentage and a .590 slugging percentage over 234 plate appearances.
The batting average dipped, but his plate discipline improved in a major way. He walked 43 times and struck out 43 times, showing a better command of the zone even while the batted-ball luck didn’t match his freshman explosion.
For his TCU career, Strosnider also went 22-for-28 stealing bases, another reminder that he’s not just a power bat standing around in the outfield.
The scouting debate is obvious. His swing has drawn praise, with evaluators calling it smooth and visually impressive, but the concerns aren’t fake.
Strosnider still has to clean up swing decisions, recognize pitches better and lift the ball more consistently. Too much loud contact on the ground can turn elite tools into frustrating outs.
Defensively, he has spent plenty of time in right field because Chase Brunson has handled center for TCU, but Strosnider has the speed and twitch to get a shot in center as a pro.
If he lands in a corner, the arm and power profile should still play.
Draft boards are all over him, with major outlets placing him anywhere from top-10 range to the back half of the first round.
That’s Sawyer Strosnider in one sentence: risky, explosive and impossible to ignore. For the Rangers at No. 16, he’d be a swing on upside ... and maybe a big one.
