TCU vs. Duke is the kind of NCAA Tournament matchup that can wreck brackets in a hurry. Duke may be the No. 1 overall seed, but TCU enters this Round of 32 battle looking nothing like a typical No. 9 seed.
The Horned Frogs have the defense, toughness, rebounding, and transition firepower to make this March Madness game far more dangerous for Duke than most fans expect.
That’s what makes TCU such a problem.
The Horned Frogs didn’t just survive their opener. They leaned into chaos and came out stronger.
David Punch delivered a monster second half against Ohio State, finishing with 16 points, 13 rebounds, and two assists, while Micah Robinson added 18 points and knocked down a career-best four 3-pointers.
Xavier Edmonds came through with the late bucket that kept TCU dancing, and now the Frogs head into their biggest challenge with confidence instead of fear.
That confidence is built on more than emotion. TCU ranks 22nd nationally in defensive efficiency, allowing only 97.8 points per 100 possessions.
The Frogs also create havoc with 4.5 blocks per game and 13.8 forced turnovers per game, a combination that can wreck offensive rhythm in March.
Add in Brock Harding, who averages 5.7 assists, 1.7 steals, and owns a 3.8-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio, and TCU has the kind of steady backcourt leadership every tournament team needs.
Duke still has the star power. Cam Boozer is the headliner, and his 22-point, 13-rebound performance in the first round showed why NBA scouts love him.
But Duke also looked vulnerable, especially from deep, and that opens the door for TCU to turn this game into a grind.
That’s exactly where the Horned Frogs want it.
If TCU controls the glass, speeds the game up in transition, and keeps Duke uncomfortable for 40 minutes, this won’t feel like a 1-vs-9 matchup. It’ll feel like a real upset brewing.
