As TCU continues to finalize its coaching staff for the upcoming season, one familiar name is stepping into a larger role - and it’s a move that makes sense on multiple levels. Former Horned Frogs standout Aaron Green has been promoted to assistant running backs coach, working under new offensive coordinator Gordon Sammis.
For TCU, this is more than just a feel-good reunion. It’s a calculated investment in continuity, credibility, and firsthand program knowledge.
Green’s journey back to the field has been deliberate.
After wrapping up his playing career, he joined the TCU Horned Frogs as assistant director of player personnel in 2025, gaining experience in roster management, recruiting evaluation, and internal operations.
He also spent time as an offensive analyst at UTSA, where he began sharpening his coaching eye on the offensive side of the ball.
That combination of administrative perspective and on-field development made Green a natural fit as TCU reshapes its offensive staff.
During his playing days in Fort Worth, Green was one of the most productive backs of his era. He rushed for more than 2,400 career yards and scored 20 total touchdowns, highlighted by a breakout 2015 season in which he logged 1,272 rushing yards - seventh-most in a single season in program history.
That year, TCU finished 11-2 and leaned heavily on Green’s vision, burst, and big-play ability.
Horned Frogs fans will never forget some of his signature moments. There was the unforgettable tipped-pass touchdown from Trevone Boykin in Lubbock during a 55-52 shootout against the Texas Tech Red Raiders, or the explosive 86-yard scoring run in a road win at Kansas State Wildcats - plays that showcased his versatility and game-breaking speed.
After going undrafted in 2016, Green carved out a professional career that included stints with the Los Angeles Rams, Dallas Cowboys, and Buffalo Bills, along with the San Antonio Commanders in the AAF.
That exposure to multiple offensive systems now adds practical value to his coaching resume.
Green becomes the second former Horned Frog on staff, joining assistant cornerbacks coach Julius Lewis, reinforcing a growing trend at TCU: blending fresh ideas with alumni who understand the program’s culture.
For players in the running backs room, Green brings instant credibility.
He’s lived the position, navigated the grind, and understands what it takes to succeed at both the college and professional levels.
As TCU continues shaping its identity under a revamped staff, elevating voices like Green’s could prove just as important as any schematic tweak.
