Tennessee right-hander Tegan Kuhns was named the Golden Spikes Award x D1 Baseball Player of the Week following his dominant start against No. 13 Alabama last Friday.
After dropping the series opener on Thursday, Kuhns turned in the best outing of his career when the Vols needed it most, tossing an eight-inning, complete-game shutout in the first game of a Friday doubleheader, setting the tone for the day in which the Big Orange dominated from start to finish to earn an important series win.
It marked the first complete-game of Kuhns' career and the first by a Tennessee pitcher since Marcus Phillips tossed a seven-inning, complete-game shutout against Florida in March of 2025. Kuhns allowed just three hits and one walk while racking up nine strikeouts to earn the win in a 10-0 run-rule victory, setting the Crimson Tide down in order five times over his eight innings of work.
Fittingly, Kuhns is the first Vol to win national player/pitcher of the week honors since Phillips did so on March 18 of last year following his complete-game shutout against the Gators.
Kuhns has pitched at least 5.2 innings in each of his last three starts and has allowed just two runs on 12 hits while racking up 26 strikeouts in that span, including back-to-back scoreless outings against ranked opponents.
