TENNESSEE VOLS TENNIS: Louisville tourney a good start

Tennessee men's tennis got a strong showing over the weekend from their underclassmen at the Louisville Invitational at Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.

Freshman Martin Doskocil and sophomore Shion Itsuasaki posted positive records in singles, with Itsusaki carving out a perfect 3-0 performance at the tournament. Doskocil posted wins during the first two days before falling on the final afternoon to finish with a 2-1 record.

Volunteer doubles tandems enjoyed a 6-0 sweep, with the duos of Adrien Abarca and Woodson McMillin, and Shion Itsuasaki and Martin Doskocil carding spotless 3-0 marks over the three-day invite.

The wins came against pairs from EKU, Bellarmine, DePaul, Louisville, Indiana and Belmont. The tourney marked Abarca's collegiate debut, with the duet of McMillin and Abarca remaining unbeaten.

STRONG START: Shion Itsusaki has started his sophomore year on a tear, winning five matches and losing only once in singles in the first two fall events. Itsusaki looks to improve on an impressive freshman year when the Osaka, Japan, native posted a 9-5 record in singles play.

UP NEXT: The Vols will have a quick turnaround, playing in the M15 Ithaca (N.Y.) on Monday.
