No. 11 Texas A&M softball is wasting no time setting a tone in the early season. The Aggies rattled off nine unanswered runs Friday night to dispatch Providence, 9-1, in six innings at Davis Diamond, continuing a dominant opening weekend at the Aggie Classic.
After Providence scratched across a run in the second inning, Texas A&M immediately flipped the script.
The Aggies answered with a three-run response in the bottom half and never looked back. From that point on, it was all maroon and white, as A&M methodically added to the lead in every inning that followed.
The offense was paced by Oklahoma State transfer Tallen Edwards, who delivered a perfect night at the plate. Edwards went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI, continuing her scorching start to the season.
Through three games, she’s batting an eye-popping .857, going 6-for-7 with three doubles and five runs scored. Her first-inning single also marked the 150th hit of her collegiate career.
Micaela Wark provided more. After Scout Lovell reached base and moved into scoring position in the sixth, Wark lined a single up the middle to bring Lovell home and trigger the run rule.
Wark finished 2-for-3 with two RBI and added a sacrifice fly earlier in the game, giving her another multi-hit, multi-RBI performance.
DeeDee Baldwin chipped in with two RBI of her own, driving in runs via a sacrifice fly and a fielder’s choice in her first start of the season behind the plate.
Freshman Annsley Groce continued her steady contributions, scoring a run for the third straight game and swiping her second stolen base of the year.
In the circle, the Aggies were just as sharp. Kate Munnerlyn earned the win in her first career start at Davis Diamond, striking out a career-high eight over four innings while allowing just one run on two hits.
Sidne Peters closed things out with two scoreless innings, punching out four more batters. Together, the duo combined for 12 strikeouts and threw strikes at a 75.6 percent clip.
The victory marked Texas A&M’s third straight run-rule win to open the season, its longest such streak to begin a year since 2019.
Up next, the Aggies face a major early test when they host No. 1 Texas Tech on Saturday afternoon, with momentum — and confidence — clearly on their side.
