Texas A&M Baseball Sweeps Tennessee Tech, Aiden Sims Shines in Opening Weekend cover image

Aiden Sims dominates on the mound, striking out seven in a career-long outing as the Aggies secure their fifth straight Opening Weekend sweep.

Texas A&M baseball could not have scripted a much better start to the 2026 season.

The No. 25 Aggies capped a dominant Opening Weekend with a 7-1 victory over Tennessee Tech at Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park, completing their fifth straight season-opening sweep. It is the 16th time in the last 18 years the Maroon & White have opened the year by taking all three games, a testament to the program’s consistency under pressure.

Sunday belonged to Aiden Sims.

Making the first weekend start of his collegiate career, the right-hander from Forney delivered a poised and powerful outing. Sims worked a career-high 6.0 innings, allowing just one hit and one run while striking out seven.

He mixed his pitches effectively, attacked the strike zone, and kept Tennessee Tech hitters off balance all afternoon. It was the kind of performance that can solidify a role in the weekend rotation moving forward.

When Sims exited, Clayton Freshcorn slammed the door shut. The reliever tossed three scoreless innings to earn his first save of the season, striking out four without issuing a walk. The bullpen’s lockdown finish underscored just how sharp Texas A&M’s pitching staff looked throughout the series.

At the plate, Wesley Jordan continued his torrid start. The Aggies’ designated hitter went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored. Through three games, Jordan is an eye-popping 7-for-9 (.778) with seven runs, four RBI and five walks - production that has ignited the offense from the middle of the lineup.

Caden Sorrell was just as impressive, matching a career high with four hits while adding an RBI and a run scored. The junior drove in 10 runs over the three-game set, marking the most RBI he has ever produced in a single series.

Timely contributions rounded out the offensive attack. Zane Becker, Jake Duer and Boston Kellner each delivered RBI knocks, helping Texas A&M stretch the lead with a three-run fourth inning and add insurance in the sixth.

The Aggies outscored their opponents by a wide margin over the weekend, piling up 45 total runs - their highest Opening Weekend output since 2017. More than 18,000 fans filled Blue Bell Park across the three games, including 5,561 on Sunday, creating an electric early-season atmosphere.

If Opening Weekend is any indication, Texas A&M baseball looks poised to make serious noise in 2026.
