Oklahoma secures dynamic 2028 RB Micah Rhodes, forcing Texas A&M to regroup. A strong early statement win for the Sooners.

The 2028 recruiting cycle is still in its infancy, but one of Texas’ most dynamic young playmakers has already made a major decision, and it’s one that shifts the early landscape for programs across the region.

Houston-area running back Micah Rhodes, widely regarded as one of the most complete backs in the country for his class, has pledged to Oklahoma.

The Sooners' landing a national top-50 prospect this early is a statement move in an era defined by constant roster adjustment.

Rhodes’ choice wasn’t made overnight. Oklahoma has been a consistent presence in his recruitment for more than a year, hosting him in Norman multiple times and making him feel like a long-term priority from the jump.

That kind of sustained attention tends to resonate with elite prospects, especially at a position where trust and development are critical.

Texas and Baylor also remained involved, but Texas A&M’s role was always more complicated.

While the Aggies did extend an offer, the reality is that their running back room has been stacked for several cycles. With scholarship numbers tight and multiple high-end options already on the roster or committed, A&M never applied the same level of pressure that Oklahoma did early on.

That doesn’t mean the door is locked forever.

Recruiting in the modern era is fluid, and running back is one of the most volatile positions in college football. Depth charts change quickly, coaching staffs evolve, and priorities shift as players move on or hit the transfer portal.

Elite talents like Rhodes rarely fall completely off a program’s radar, especially when they’re in-state and possess a skill set that translates at the highest level.

Rhodes brings a rare blend of vision, burst, and versatility that fits almost any offensive system. He’s the type of back who can impact the game between the tackles, catch the ball in space, and hold up over a full season - traits that keep evaluators and college staffs circling back, regardless of early commitments.

The Aggies may have ground to make up, but recruiting timelines are long, and circumstances rarely stay static over three years.

If opportunity and need align down the road, don’t be surprised if College Station re-enters the conversation.

For now, Oklahoma has the early win. The rest of the field will be watching closely to see if it’s one that sticks.
