There is a great chance that the former Texas A&M star will eclipse Bruce Smith’s historic career record, cementing his dominance following a blockbuster trade to the Rams.

Myles Garrett has already established himself as one of the NFL’s premier pass rushers ever, but FOX Sports believes the former Texas A&M star is on track to accomplish something even more historic.

In its 2026 rankings of the NFL’s top 10 pass rushers, FOX Sports placed Garrett at No. 1, putting him ahead of Houston Texans star Will Anderson Jr., Green Bay Packers edge rusher Micah Parsons and Las Vegas Raiders standout Maxx Crosby.

While the ranking itself is hardly surprising after Garrett’s record-setting 2025 campaign, the prediction attached to it is much bolder.

FOX Sports analyst Bucky Brooks called Garrett a "lock" to break Bruce Smith’s NFL career sack record of 200 before the two-time Defensive Player of the Year retires.

"Garrett’s dominance and consistency as a sack artist, despite previously playing for a team that is routinely in "catch-up" mode, speak to his efficiency and effectiveness in hounding quarterbacks in less-than-ideal circumstances," Brooks writes.

"With the single-season sack record in hand and at least 10 sacks in eight of his nine seasons, the future Hall of Fame inductee is a lock to take down Bruce Smith’s career mark before he hangs up the cleats."

Garrett’s dominance was enough to earn him the top spot despite a loaded group of pass rushers behind him.

Anderson finished second after another outstanding season, while Parsons, Crosby, and Detroit Lions star Aidan Hutchinson rounded out the top five.

The accomplishment is particularly impressive considering Garrett has spent most of his career with the Cleveland Browns, a team that has frequently struggled to contend.

Now, Garrett will enter the next chapter of his career with the Los Angeles Rams after being traded during the offseason.

The move gives him an opportunity to chase the record while playing alongside a talented defensive unit that could help him chase his first Super Bowl ring.

Garrett’s current trajectory makes the possibility of becoming the NFL’s all-time sack leader more than just a hypothetical.

Smith finished his career with 200 sacks, while Garrett has consistently produced double-digit totals and is coming off the best sack season in league history.

For Texas A&M fans, Garrett’s continued dominance provides another reminder of the type of talent the Aggies had in College Station.

His NFL career has already cemented his status among the greatest pass rushers of his generation. If this prediction proves correct, Garrett could eventually add another distinction: the most prolific quarterback hunter in NFL history.
