Von Miller began his long journey with football in Texas, most notably at Texas A&M. Is it possible the former Aggie legend is heading back to the Lone Star State for one final chapter?
Texas A&M has sent numerous Aggies to the NFL over the years, but arguably one of its most iconic professional products is longtime linebacker Von Miller.
Miller is a two-time Super Bowl champion across his 15-year NFL career, including being named Super Bowl 50 MVP while with the Denver Broncos.
While Miller is not quite reaching those peaks anymore, he still feels that has a little left in the tank and is searching for his new home after a one-year stop with the Washington Commanders.
The target of his latest free agency is one that is all too familiar, at least in terms of where its located.
Miller posted a picture on his Instagram showing himself edited into a Dallas Cowboys uniform in an apparent hint or nudge toward the franchise to consider bringing him aboard next year.
In his extensive career, Miller has never suited up for the Cowboys but his ties back to the state of Texas go far beyond his NFL days.
Of course, Miller called College Station home during his collegiate time and made quite a name for himself with the Aggies. In four seasons at Texas A&M, he tallied 104 solo tackles, 33 sacks and forced 10 fumbles. Miller also received All-American honors and won the Butkus Award in his senior season in 2010.
These accomplishments led Miller to be the No. 2-overall pick to the Broncos in 2011, which ultimately blossomed into the NFL career already discussed.
Before his time at Texas A&M, however, Miller was still showing out in the Lone Star State. He is a graduate of DeSoto High School, which is nearby Dallas for those unfamiliar with Texas geography, and starred in both football and track for the Eagles.
Not to mention, Miller was recently inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame for his achievements at all three phases of the game, with only his NFL accolades happening outside of the state.
If the Cowboys pick up on the obvious signal from Miller, it could bring about a full-circle completion of a storied career in football that was centered in Texas.
Granted, it is hard to understate how big that "if" truly is, especially considering Miller is undoubtedly entering the twilight of his time on the gridiron. But with a defensive unit as poor as Dallas touted last season and a proven asset, no matter how old, rallying to join up, it would not be the strangest free agency move ever seen in the NFL.
For now, Miller remains in free-agent limbo awaiting to see if Jerry Jones and company take up him on his offer to finish out his football story with one final chapter right in the heart of where it all started.
