Mackenzie Mgbako says he “100 percent” plans to return to Texas A&M, giving the Aggies a huge frontcourt boost after his injury-shortened season.

Texas A&M basketball just got a major offseason win, and it didn’t come from the transfer portal,  it came from Mackenzie Mgbako making it crystal clear that he’s not done in College Station.

The former Indiana transfer told Carter Karels of GigEm247 that he plans to be back with the Aggies next season, saying he “100 percent” intends to return.

For a roster that badly needs proven scoring and frontcourt firepower, that’s enormous news. And honestly, it changes the tone of the offseason.

Mgbako arrived at Texas A&M with real pedigree. He was a top-10 RSCI recruit, the Big Ten Rookie of the Year, and a player with clear NBA-level talent.

At Indiana, the 6-8 forward averaged 12.2 points and 4.1 rebounds per game as a freshman, then followed that with another 12.2 points per game as a sophomore while boosting his field goal percentage from 45.3 percent to 52.6. That kind of progression is exactly why scouts kept circling his name.

The frustrating part for everyone in Aggieland is that they barely got to see him.

Mgbako started all seven games he played for Texas A&M before foot trouble wrecked the season. After suffering a Jones fracture in his right foot and undergoing surgery, he worked his way back only to injure the same foot again during non-conference play.

A second surgery followed, and with it, a season that never had the chance to fully take off. That’s why his return matters so much.

Before the injury, Mgbako carried first-round NBA draft buzz, and even now, the upside hasn’t disappeared; it’s just been delayed.

Texas A&M now gets another shot to unleash a player who was expected to be one of the most important pieces on the roster.

And with Mgbako saying “100 percent” he’ll be back, Aggies fans finally have a reason to believe next season’s frontcourt could be a whole lot nastier.
