Former Texas A&M QB Haynes King is turning heads with Carolina after a huge preseason debut, continuing a remarkable career revival that began at Georgia Tech.

Instead, the former Aggies quarterback has completely rewritten his story, and now the Carolina Panthers may have found one of the NFL’s most interesting undrafted rookies.
King announced himself in a big way during the Hall of Fame Game against the Arizona Cardinals, producing 219 total yards and three touchdowns while finishing the night with a dramatic walk-off touchdown run.
For a quarterback who didn’t hear his name called during the NFL Draft, that’s one heck of an introduction.
King’s journey to this point has been anything but conventional.
His Texas A&M career was repeatedly interrupted by injuries, preventing him from ever establishing the kind of consistency many expected when he arrived in College Station. After three seasons with the Aggies, King transferred to Georgia Tech.
That decision changed everything.
King developed into one of college football’s most dangerous dual-threat quarterbacks with the Yellow Jackets, eventually piling up 7,907 passing yards, 2,277 rushing yards and 91 total touchdowns during his Georgia Tech career.
His final college season was his best.
King was named the 2025 ACC Offensive Player of the Year and finished 10th in the Heisman Trophy voting, establishing himself as one of the nation’s most productive quarterbacks.
Still, NFL teams passed on him during the draft.
Carolina didn’t.
The Panthers signed King as an undrafted free agent, giving the 6-foot-4, 212-pound quarterback an opportunity to prove his college production and athletic ability could translate to the next level.
So far, he’s making the most of it.
King’s 4.46-second 40-yard dash gives him athleticism few quarterbacks can match, and his ability to create offense with both his arm and legs was on full display against Arizona.
That doesn’t guarantee him an NFL roster spot. Undrafted quarterbacks face an uphill battle every summer, and preseason performances have to be repeated before they become something more meaningful.
But King has already accomplished something important.
He’s forced people to pay attention.
A career that once appeared stuck in neutral at Texas A&M took off after King left for Georgia Tech. Now, after going undrafted, he’s trying to pull off another unlikely transformation.
