Former Texas A&M star Braden Montgomery delivered two hits and scored a run as the White Sox beat Houston 6-3 in Game 1 of the AL Wild Card Series.

Former Texas A&M outfielder Braden Montgomery wasted no time making an impact in October.

Montgomery went 2-for-4 with a run scored Tuesday as the Chicago White Sox beat the Houston Astros 6-3 in Game 1 of the American League Wild Card Series at Daikin Park. Chicago now needs one more victory to advance.

For Aggies fans who followed Montgomery through College Station, the moment was another reminder of how quickly his professional career has accelerated.

The 23-year-old helped spark Chicago’s offense in the second inning when he singled to open the frame. Chase Meidroth followed with another hit, and the White Sox eventually loaded the bases before Sam Antonacci drove in two runs with a single.

Montgomery came around to score as Chicago built an early advantage.

That contribution came after a rookie regular season filled with both flashes and adjustment.

Montgomery played 93 games for the White Sox in 2026, hitting .226 with six home runs, 38 RBIs and 47 runs scored. He also finished with 16 doubles, three triples and a .312 on-base percentage.

The overall numbers weren’t overwhelming, but his arrival in the majors certainly was.

Montgomery made his MLB debut in June and immediately produced one of the season’s most memorable moments, blasting a two-run walk-off home run against Atlanta.

He became just the fifth player in major league history to hit a walk-off homer in his first MLB game.

“I still don’t know what to say,” Montgomery said after that debut. “That was unreal.”

Now he’s adding postseason production to his résumé.

Chicago’s lineup doesn’t need Montgomery to carry the offense, but his ability to provide quality at-bats near the bottom of the order could become increasingly important in a short playoff series.

Two hits in his first postseason game is a strong start.

For Texas A&M fans, Montgomery has quickly become one of the easiest former Aggies to follow this October.

His first MLB season began with a walk-off homer.

His first postseason game began with two hits and a White Sox victory.

That’s not a bad way to introduce yourself to the biggest stages in baseball.
