Fresh off a record-breaking season, the elite pass rusher earns immediate leadership honors in Los Angeles, commanding locker room respect before playing a single snap for the franchise.

Texas A&M fans have watched Myles Garrett terrorize opposing quarterbacks and offensive lines since his first season at College Station back in 2014. Now, even before taking a single snap with the Los Angeles Rams, Garrett has already earned another distinction that speaks to the respect he commands around the league.

Garrett was voted one of the Rams' team captains for the 2026 season, despite being a newcomer to the organization. The Rams announced 11 captains on Monday, with Garrett joining quarterback Matthew Stafford, running back Kyren Williams, tight end Tyler Higbee, wide receiver Davante Adams, and several other veterans.

The most notable part of Garrett's selection is how quickly it happened. He has yet to play his first regular-season game for Los Angeles, meaning his teammates have already decided that his presence and leadership are worthy of a captain's designation before he has officially suited up for a meaningful game.

For Garrett, this is hardly his first experience in a leadership role. He previously served as a captain with the Cleveland Browns, the franchise that selected him No. 1 overall in the 2017 NFL Draft. His reputation as a leader has only grown alongside his production, particularly after a historic 2025 season in which he recorded 23 sacks, setting a new single-season NFL record.

That production is a major reason why expectations are so high for Garrett in Los Angeles. The Rams made a massive move to acquire the former Aggie, adding one of the NFL's premier pass rushers to a defense that already features plenty of talent. Garrett has also reportedly begun making an impression beyond simply what he can do between the lines, with the Rams noting that he has been acclimating to the team's culture and developing relationships with his new teammates.

Add that to the fact that legend Aaron Donald has just come out of retirement to play with Garrett, it speaks to the respect he commands on the field.

For Texas A&M, it is another reminder of the type of impact Garrett has had since leaving College Station. His dominance on the field made him a superstar, but earning the trust of a new locker room before playing a game shows that his influence extends well beyond his sack numbers.

Now, Garrett gets the opportunity to prove that leadership on the field — with the Rams hoping their newest captain can help lead them toward a championship.
