After a humbling loss to the Jaguars, first-round pick KC Concepcion is turning a fumbled debut into a blueprint for success in the Browns' evolving young offense.
KC Concepcion’s first NFL game did not go exactly as planned, but the former Texas A&M standout is already looking ahead rather than dwelling on a difficult debut.
Concepcion was selected by the Cleveland Browns in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft and entered the season with significant expectations. His first regular-season game against the Jacksonville Jaguars showed both some of the potential that made him a first-round pick and some of the challenges that come with adjusting to the NFL.
The Browns were thoroughly outplayed in a 34-10 loss, with the offense struggling to generate much throughout the afternoon. Concepcion finished with four catches for 43 yards on five targets, leading Cleveland in targets while getting his first taste of the speed and physicality of an NFL regular-season game. He also lost a fumble, giving him an obvious area to clean up moving forward.
Rather than allowing the mistakes to linger, Concepcion is choosing to treat Week 1 as a learning experience.
"It was a great experience to go out there and get my first NFL game in," the former Aggies star told reporters. "Seeing how the speed of the game is different. Week 1 didn’t go how we planned it. Just move on to the next one."
That mentality should come as little surprise to those who followed Concepcion during his college career. The Browns clearly believe the versatility and explosiveness he displayed before reaching the NFL can translate into a significant role in their offense.
Cleveland has already shown a willingness to move Concepcion around and find different ways to get the ball in his hands. During the preseason, Browns head coach Todd Monken praised the rookie's explosiveness, toughness, and contact balance while discussing the various ways the team could utilize him.
That versatility could become especially important as Cleveland searches for consistency offensively. Concepcion and fellow rookie receiver Denzel Boston are viewed as important pieces of the Browns' young receiving corps, giving the team two developing weapons to build around.
For Concepcion, the biggest takeaway from Week 1 may simply be how quickly he is willing to move forward.
The fumble will be something to learn from, and the Browns will need more production from their offense after scoring just 10 points. But four receptions and 43 yards in a difficult team performance also gave Concepcion something to build on.
After experiencing the NFL game for the first time, Concepcion now knows exactly what the speed is like.
And rather than making excuses for a rough debut, he has made it clear that his focus is already on the next opportunity.
