San Francisco dodged a major blow after their veteran playmaker’s Achilles scare. Despite missing significant time against Washington, the former Aggie star looks poised for a semi-quick return.

Former Texas A&M standout Mike Evans and the San Francisco 49ers received some encouraging news following the veteran wide receiver's latest injury scare.

After leaving Monday night's victory over the Washington Commanders with an Achilles issue, Evans appears to have avoided the kind of serious injury that could have sidelined him for an extended period.

Evans has been battling multiple injuries throughout the season, including fractured ribs and Achilles soreness. Despite those concerns, he suited up against Washington and immediately made his presence felt in the passing game.

The veteran receiver finished with three catches for 94 yards before exiting the contest in the first half. His early departure raised concerns, particularly given the severity of Achilles injuries and the recent injury troubles affecting San Francisco's roster.

Fortunately for the 49ers, head coach Kyle Shanahan offered a reassuring assessment after the game.

"It almost cost him this game and ended up costing him two quarters. Hopefully, he'll be able to play next week, but if not, we'll have to have the rest of the group step up, and hopefully, get him healed up by after the bye week," Shanahan said.

That news represents a significant positive for San Francisco, which has relied heavily on Evans since bringing him aboard. However, his availability for the upcoming matchup against the Atlanta Falcons remains uncertain.

The timing presents a challenge for the 49ers. They have a Week 8 bye approaching, giving Evans an opportunity to rest and recover if the team decides to hold him out against Atlanta. Allowing him additional time to heal could prove more valuable than risking another aggravation by rushing him back onto the field.

Evans' importance was particularly evident against Washington. San Francisco built a 23-3 advantage but struggled offensively after losing its top receiving threat, eventually holding on for a narrow 23-17 victory. The 49ers improved to 6-0, although the second-half struggles highlighted how difficult it could be to replace Evans' production.

For Texas A&M fans, Evans' continued success in the NFL remains another reminder of the impact he has made since his college career in College Station. The former Aggies star has built a reputation as one of football's most dependable receivers, combining size, physicality, and outstanding ball skills.

At 33, Evans continues to demonstrate that he can make a difference when healthy. San Francisco will now have to balance its need for his production with the importance of protecting him for the remainder of the season.

While his immediate status remains uncertain, the encouraging initial assessment gives the 49ers reason to be optimistic. With the playoffs still a long-term objective, getting Evans healthy could be one of the most important factors in maintaining their undefeated start.
