More than a year after his last NFL appearance, former Texas A&M defensive standout Nnamdi Madubuike is on the verge of returning to the football field.
Madubuike appears set to make his 2026 season debut Sunday when the Baltimore Ravens take on the Dallas Cowboys in Brazil. The two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle was a full participant in Friday's practice and was not given an injury designation on Baltimore's final report, clearing the path for him to play.
For Madubuike, the return represents the culmination of a lengthy recovery process after a neck injury ended his 2025 season.
The former Aggie last played in Week 2 of last season before the injury ultimately sidelined him for the remainder of the year. Baltimore took a cautious approach with his recovery, and Madubuike eventually underwent a procedure on his neck several months later.
There were questions about when — and whether — Madubuike would be able to return to the field, but the defensive tackle steadily progressed throughout the offseason.
He returned to practice at the beginning of training camp, although the Ravens gradually increased his workload rather than immediately throwing him into full-contact football. Madubuike returned to team drills in early September before finally becoming a full participant this week.
Now, the next step is getting back into an NFL game.
Madubuike has developed into one of the league's premier interior defensive linemen since entering the NFL as a third-round pick out of Texas A&M in 2020. His breakout 2023 season included 13 sacks, 56 tackles and 33 quarterback hits, earning him second-team All-Pro honors.
The Ravens rewarded that season with a four-year, $98 million contract, and Madubuike followed it with another Pro Bowl campaign in 2024.
His return could provide a significant boost to a Baltimore defense that will be looking to rebound after allowing 15 fourth-quarter points in last week's loss to New Orleans.
For Texas A&M fans, Sunday's game offers another opportunity to watch one of the program's most accomplished recent defensive products return to the NFL stage.
