Former Aggie Le'Veon Moss looked primed to get his NFL shot with the Miami Dolphins, but he chose to retire four days after signing with the team.
In a stunning move, former Aggies running back Le'Veon Moss announced that he is retiring from football just four days after inking an undrafted free agent deal with the Miami Dolphins.
According to initial reports, Moss was given around $250K from the Dolphins to take part in their rookie minicamp. The decision sent ripples through the franchise, as they are now without a potential depth piece to replenish a rushing attack headed by a freshly extended De'Von Achane with no prior warning.
While Moss seemed ready to roll in the NFL, there were signs that his football career may be coming to an end sooner than expected.
Heading into NFL Draft, there were concerns over Moss' injury history while in college, which most likely played a role in the running back going undrafted. These injury woes reared their head in his last two seasons with Texas A&M, as he tore his ACL and MCL in 2024 and then tweaked his ankle on two separate occasions last seasons during the Aggies' run to the College Football Playoff.
When not battling injuries, Moss showcased power and speed out of the backfield that rivaled almost anyone in the SEC. He tallied just shy of 1,800 yards and 22 touchdowns during his four-year career, in which he never played more than nine games in a season.
Despite these questions from other teams around the league, Miami appeared ready to give Moss the chance to prove that he could overcome adversity once again. For the Dolphins to lose out on Moss before he stepped foot on the field is a tough pill to swallow.
Fans of the Dolphins and those commenting on the bizarre move have taken to social media to voice their disapproval with Moss' decision. Some claim that Moss swindled Miami out of the guaranteed money with no desire to ever suit up for the team. Others were confused how he could retire if he never truly started his career on the field.
Regardless of what led to his decision, Moss has said goodbye to his football career after an up-and-down stint throughout his time College Station. Although it does not make much sense to those on the outside, Moss knows better than anyone else what he can endure moving forward.
While most football players strive to make the NFL, sometimes that lofty goal does not always prove to be the best choice, highlighted by the most recent decision from Moss.
