Texas A&M quarterback Marcel Reed enters 2026 with big expectations after 3,169 passing yards, 25 touchdowns, and growing CFP hopes in College Station.
Texas A&M football heads into 2026 with one question sitting above all the others ... can Marcel Reed take the next step?
As the Aggies wrap spring practice with the Maroon & White Game, the spotlight stays firmly on the redshirt junior quarterback and what his development could mean for another College Football Playoff run.
Marcel Reed put up eye-catching numbers in 2025, throwing for 3,169 yards and 25 touchdowns while adding 493 rushing yards.
Those totals helped power a breakthrough year for Texas A&M football, but they didn’t erase the issues that showed up late. Reed also threw 12 interceptions, and the turnover problem became impossible to ignore in the biggest moments, including a rough finish against Texas and Miami.
That’s why this offseason feels so important. Texas A&M coach Mike Elko has made progress across the roster, but the Aggies’ ceiling still depends on Reed becoming a more polished and dependable passer.
Better pocket movement, sharper decisions, and improved accuracy are all part of the checklist as he works with quarterbacks coach Joey Lynch.
The encouraging part for A&M is that Reed already has plenty to build on. His chemistry with wide receiver Mario Craver was a major weapon last season, with Craver finishing with 917 receiving yards and four touchdowns.
The Aggies also added more talent to the room with transfer Isaiah Horton and freshman Aaron Gregory, giving Reed bigger targets and more explosiveness on the outside.
There’s also the running game. Reed’s dual-threat ability can change games, and Texas A&M would benefit from leaning into that more often in 2026. When he’s using both his arm and legs, the offense becomes much harder to defend.
Nationally, Reed is already getting respect, entering the season as a top-25 quarterback prospect and one of the highest-rated signal-callers in the SEC.
Now comes the harder part. For Texas A&M to return to the playoff, Reed has to turn promise into consistency.
